    Hi Folks,

Is there any way I can get round the Irish entry to become a primary school teacher in Ireland?

Mature student, BA, Masters (unrelated) (All 2.1 Honours with 440 LC points but B2/3 in Irish) and Trad musician. Realise the prospects are slim.

    but B2/3 in Irish

    What's that?

No way around the Irish really.

The only way to get into primary teaching is
    1) resit the Leaving Cert Irish and try to get a C3 in Hons
    2) do the dip in Irish with NUI Maynooth (2 yrs, one evening a week)
    3) do a 3 year Montessori degree and teach Learning Support in primary.
    3) train abroad

No, unless you'd like to work in a special school. You don't need Irish to work in a special school.

Get someone who knows what it's like, had 4 mature students for grinds this year, helped them learn how to study more than anything as they had completely forgotten or in one case claims to have never learned. It's well managable, all got fantastic results and did themselves proud. With some guidance you'll go far and get to where you want to.
