    Hi,

I have a 250gb Samsung IDE hard drive. I saved all my photos and some movies to it in attempt to reorganise my data (just use it for storage). This process went through ok. I could read and write data with no problems. I unplugged it from my PC. I installed Vista on a seperate hard drive. I plugged my Samsung back in. Vista and BIOS recognises it but insists on formatting it.

So, I unplugged it, connected it to USB caddy, again same thing, recognised but Vista wants to format.

So I used EASEUS Data Recovery to try backup my data from the Samsung to another hard drive. It detects all the files and folders, and I backed them up. However when I try open any of the photos:

"Photo gallery cant open this picture or video. The file format is not supported or you dont have the latest updates to photo gallery". Photoshop wont open them either!! Only about 50 photos will open, but theres a hell of alot more that wont. Strange thing is, the photos that will open are all in one folder (eg My Birthday 2009) so its not just random photos.

So basically the files are there, all names as they were, in the original folders all named as they were, but wont open. I searched this error in google but the solutions are not working. tried JPEG Recovery also, but it only detects the "working" photos. The films wont open either.

I ran a full Samsung hard drive diagnostic, passed everything. Im in a cold sweat here. I only put all my eggs in one basket temporarily, I was planning on making a second copy as soon as I had Vista reinstalled etc as I just moved house and wanted to spring clean my PC physically and the data also.

I really hope somebody can shed some light on this. If you need any more info just ask. The last thing I could do is bring to a data backup company, but I want to do this myself as it would be costly to go down that road.

Ok Im going to cry in the corner now for a bit (sob)
