If you are over 23 and get a course by the CAO option do you still qualify as a Mature Student and could you still get some sort of grant?

You need to have ticked Mature Applicant when filling out the form to be considered a mature student. Sometimes colleges just go by your Leaving Cert. points but most have an interview or entrance test etc.

If you filled out the life experience(mature) section of the CAO form then YES you are a mature student and you can apply for a grant either way :)

It doesn't matter whether you made a "Mature" application or not - the very fact that you are over 23 by 1st Jan of the year you start means you are by definition a Mature Student, and you qualify for any supports given to Mature Students.
