    Hi All

Whats the easiest way to check if a car was ever registered as a taxi or hackney. There are no exterior or interior clues but the milage is very high.

Is there some type of register or something?

They have a link up with the revenue car tax database i thinks,
taxi's and hackneys have a different tax rate

Assuming it was originally registered as a PSV in the first place.

It is not unusual for some taxi/hackney owners to keep their cars registered as private vehicles to protect resale values come selling time.

What about if it was taxed as private new, then the second owner had it registered as a taxi - would this show up ?

Do a check on cartell or motorcheck.

It may not have been a PSV, but it may have been fleet vehicle or company car.

That's utter horse sh1t. To be a hackney or a taxi the car must be a PSV and taxed appropriately.

One way to find out, stick your hands in between the gaps in the rear seats, if you smell puke or pi*ss from your fingers you know its a taxi. :D

Would they not be paying far more in motor tax then?

Can you tell by the tax disc..?

steering wheel and pedals look like a high milage car alright...

Yep, over €500 for a 2.0 per annum on the cc price plan. As I said it does not happen. To use a car as a PSV it must be registered as a PSV, it is impossible to tax a PSV as a private vehicle.

131k in 5 years? 26k per year. Youch. At least it's the upgraded Primera with better suspension etc. It's definitely the sort of car a taxi driver would use.

Have you been to see it?

Yip , its a friend thats looking at buying it . Car drives perfect , no tell tale signs of an ex taxi . It wouldn't bother him if its ex fleet or company car , they are generally well looked after.

Should be a good'un then. They're grand cars. Apparently modelled on the way a car looks after it's been in a snowstorm :pac:

€350 dearer, 30,000 miles less on the clock

The 2003 model had nothing like the Primera III's handling, so the suspension was reworked and rolled out on the '04 model with far better handling. The interior was reworked too, better GPS, infotainment centre, new doorhandles... small stuff but nice to have.

The crappy black fake leather. Seen it on plenty of taxis.

Some taxi-men buy old rear seats from breakers and change them so puke is not a good way to find out. If it is high mileage why are you even thinking about it, if mileage is not a problem for you has it got service history with receipts. Some taxis are very well serviced.
