Registering a domain name

    Hi all,

I am at the very early stages of possibly setting up a consulting business. I have an idea for a company name that I really want to push forward i.e. domain name, registration name, but I havent gone thru any stages of actually establishing a business. I know very little about setting up a business, and to save time on research just thought id pop on here and ask for some advice. So basically all I want to do now is secure a domain and the company name, what do I do?

    Cheers

    Hi

If it is a .com address then you can just go online to any domain registration and register it.

If it is a .ie address you will need to show some attachment to an activity in Ireland. Usually if you register a business name in the CRO the receipt number is sufficient for this purpose.

Registering a company is a bit more difficult as it cannot coincide with another company's name. You also cannot differentiate it by simply using words like "services" "consultants" or place names.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Mate

Are you setting up a limited company or going self employed ?

I went self employed in Jan and just registered a Trading Name,I was then able to register the domain I wanted by emailing the Company a copy of the Registration letter.

Thats all it took, pretty straight forward in the end

    Rob
