To keep mobile broadband or not? (iPhone related)

I currently have an 02 mobile broadband package for €20 per month. Now that I have my new iPhone I want to cancel this but still be able to connect to the internet on my laptop. I have a 3 unlocked dongle with a data sim that I can use in the UK. 02 and Vodaphone don't do pay as you go data sims and 3 in the Republic charges €20 for theirs for 10 days according to one surly rep I spoke to!

What are my options? Should I keep my €20 contract or is there any way around this? Paying enough to 02 for my new iPhone contract as it is. Read the thread about tethering but I've already upgraded to 3.0.1 and my phone isn't jailbroken (as it's so new, don't want to tempt fate in case anything happens and I have to bring it back) Any ideas?

You can tether on 3.0.1. Just not on the upcoming 3.1 update.

It really depends on how much internet you see yourself using. You get 10gb with your O2 broadband and only 1GB with your iPhone plan. As far as I was aware the 3.0.1 update didn't break tethering? You could also probably put your iPhone sim in your unlocked 3 modem, although I'm sure that breaks all sorts of T's & C's !

My iPhone sim is my ordinary phone sim I've had for years. I just switch it to each new phone I get. Does it not have to have a data package on it?

Yes, it'll need a data bundle added to your account. I just assumed you were on an iPhone plan.
