Domain Name - A warning about stupidity like mine

I had a domain name registered with Mydomain.com for many years and due to some rearrangement of domains etc I moved one particular domain to another account with (I thought) the same company. I still think it is the same company. Apparently the new account registered with NamesDirect.com.

This move was done purely to keep the admin of several domains separate. The use of services for the domain did not change.

At the beginning of Aug two domains were flagged for renewal .. one on the original account and the one I moved to the new account.

The charge for the renewal of the moved domain was $30 per year.
The charge for the renewal of the other domain was less than $10 per year.

The renewals were put through, but the high charge was queried within a couple of hours.

What happened after that is what disgusted me.

All my questions and concerns were ignored - I believe to allow the transaction to go through my credit card - and replies I got consisted of ...
    "Response (Annie M) - 08/10/2009 02:50 PM
Here is a copy of that invoice for your domain name renewal."
I]EDIT by me: I had not previously received confirmation of the charge to my account[/I
"It is $30.00 per year for the renewal.
    Thank you,
    Annie"
"It seems the domain has bene renewed therefore you will have the domain lxxxxxs.com registered until 08/21/2011.

As far as charges go please refer to our registration agreement regarding subscription information.
    http://www.namesdirect.com/agreement/index.php?siteid=20790"

That is the sum total of the response I got about cancelling my renewal and the apparent overcharge of the renewal fee.

The whole mess it seems is because I created a new account through Mydomain.com (I have no proof of this as it is some time ago, but it is reasonable to assume that is what I attempted to do as I was and am satisfied with their service], which it now seems was actually created under NamesDirect.com.
The renewal fee for MyDomain.com is indeed less than $10 per year.
The renewal fees for NamesDirect are indeed $30 per year.

I am mostly peed-off at my own stupidity for allowing this to happen, and not refusing to renew the moved domain name until I had it all sorted first. Maybe I could have moved the name back to the original account and renewed from there at < $10 per year. I guess I will never know.

Anyway this is just by way of info and warning to others who may have a similar situation.
What did not help at all was that NamesDirect refused to give me an email address to write to -- I had to go to a web page and send from there, which of course meant I had no proof of what I wrote to them in my "Sent" folder.
It all added to the confusion.
    Deliberately ... I now believe.

All I can say is that I am thankful that I did not have 10 domain names to renew for 5 years with them
    $1500 against less than $500 through MyDomain.com.

Yet it seems they are essentially one and the same company - if I am reading 'whois' correctly, and the fact that I go to the MyDomain website and log into my new account and then land at NamesDirect, but with MyDomain still showing in the location bar of the browser!

You have been warned ...... learn from my stupidity or pay rip off prices to one hand instead of reasonable prices to the other hand of the same body.

    Regards,

    JohnBoy
