Electric Hob Circuit Board Replace

    Hi,

Has anyone ever replaced a circuit board on Glass, touch control hob.

My Hob has gone on the blink, 2 rings dont work. I had an 'Engineer' out and he diagnosed a circuit board failure.
I diagnose an Engineer failure. I fairness all he was able to do was to poke a phase tester around. Its a joke.
His advice "as sure a new board is the same price as a new hob"

I think its a total waste to discard 4 good rings and the glass and all that goes with it.

So, Im looking to replace the PCB. Has anyone ever tried it?
    (Electrolux ehs6610k )

    Thanks!

Given your confidence in the "engineer", are you sure that it's the controller and not the 2 rings that are gone? They're pretty easy to test with a continuity tester (disconnect the terminal first). I had one go on the ceramic hob of my Creda cooker recently and replaced it myself without too much bother, in fact the most difficult part of the whole operation was figuring out which screws to undo to get the top off :) I'd imagine that if it was the PCB it wouldn't be that hard a job either.

I dont think its the rings, as they come on, for a bit and then go off, even though the display says that they are still on. Then they wont get hot again until the hob has been powered off/on.

My mam had the exact same problem (comes on, goes off and needs to be reset to work again) in her place.

It was under warranty however and the board was replaced and it worked perfectly, for about 1 day.

It happened again after 1 day so we removed the whole hob and returned it and got a different brand which wasn't one of the touch control ones.

That one is still going perfect

Ah OK, I see. Shouldn't be too hard to replace, IF you can get the part for a good price. Whereas simple things like new rings, door seals etc. aren't too pricey and make an economic repair possible, my experience of replacing electronic parts in modern appliances is that they charge absolutely ridiculous prices, so maybe the "engineer" was right in this instance.
