Yes, but does it project a wall of light behind it?

That's the only feature I really want.

It's the ability to make instantaneous 90* turns without slowing down that I crave.

    Wheels with hubs ftw!

I think it looks cool, like a Jetsons bike. Want one.
Of course there's a huge difference between "unstealable" and "unusable".

I would have slightly more time for this coming from Chris Boardman than some random design agency putting out a "concept"...

The new bike includes an inbuilt computer system incorporating an 'unbreakable' locking device that allows only the owner to open it via fingerprint recognition

A mini computer on the handlebars counts the calories the cyclist is burning by monitoring each turn of the pedals.

Actually dont they give away calorie counters free with cornflackes these days....
Spoke-less wheels make the bike more aerodynamic while the tyres will be puncture-proof with self-inflating tyres.

    Specifications:
    • A convenient inflation kit designed specifically for mountain bikers.
    • Incorporating the microflate mini co2 inflator, a fully adjustable bike mount and a 40 gram big air cylinder, this kit can inflate 2 mountain bikes tyres to over 40 psi in a matter of seconds.

Owners of the bike, which is still being designed, won't even always have to pedal - a battery-assisted motor run by solar panels takes over if they get tired.

Plus the frame is made of carbon fibre, making the bike strong and lightweight.
Surly they will have a better material in 20 years time????

Boardman, who led a research team for British Cycling in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics, said the bike would not be 'financially feasible' for 20 years.

    What a load of Bol*****

Great topic and thread but sorry The Mail is a rag and their reporting skill and design is trash reporting. They manage to construct a report on a potentially great topic and make it boring, predictable and uninspired... God I hate the Mail, and Boardman is an ass...... Rant over:rolleyes:

I think your post more of less sums up what Boardman was saying, the tech is all there now but it will take 20 years before it is all shrunk and well integrated at a price suitable for commuters.

Yeah thats what I mean, its an artical about nothing. There are many future products that are yet to be put into production.

The artical doesnt go into any tech info and lets face it the futuristic spec list sounds like it was colated by a 10 year old and is driven by what sounds cool as opposed to what would be an advancement in current technology.

It's not just an integration issue. The actual bike pictured would be completely rubbish for "everyday" use, even if it worked at all.

There is a reason wheels have hubs, and ditching that design for aerodynamic reasons on a normal bike is completely retarded.

Of course, this is the Mail, so I have no faith that Boardman said any of it.

That doesn't necessarily make it thief proof...
