How long to recover conditioning after injury ?

I'm starting to get back running after 7 weeks or so off through injury. Still not 100% but enough to get back doing easy pace stuff. Before getting injured I was averaging around 50 miles a week with an easy/recovery run pace of around 730-745 with the aim of a sub 3:10/3:15 in Dublin (3:27 last yr).

Unfortunately it looks like Dublin is a non runner this year :( but I'm amazed at how hard I'm finding getting back into it and how much fitness I've lost. I've done about 7 or 8 runs now with little improvement. I've only managed to mainly 6 milers with one 7 last night but getting round is a real struggle.

Part of me was hoping that after a few efforts I'd be back to a certain level where Dublin would still be possible but now I don't think so. Getting more frustrated now with the lack of fitness than the odds of missing Dublin as I'm running out of time.

Any views on how long it takes to start recovering fitness ?

    Thanks.

Firstly I'm in the same boat as you. Two months off due to injuries.
Getting back into it is definitely a struggle and it hurts - physically and emotionally.

From what I've been told it will take twice the amount of the layoff. So it will be Christmas before I'm back where I was before my injuries.

I think the key is to relax, roll with it and remember why you love the sport.

    Thanks Tunney.

I suppose part of me is/was hoping that I'd be close to a decent level quick enough for Dublin.

    ah well......
