My Belkin router is on the way out at home so I need to get a new one.

I've been looking at Dabs and Elara and theres piles of choice. Too much.

I'm looking for a robust router that will be on 24 X 7 at home. My broadband is supplied by ethernet so I need and ethernet router (not DSL).
I just need pretty standard stuff, 4 ports (maybe Gb ports), wireless access point, firewall and NAtting. I'm not looking for the cheapest. I just want something I can plug in, configure and then forget about for the next few years.

I'm not a fan of Belkin. When I bought my current model it had a problem after 6 months. Now its replacment is disconnecting itself randomly.

Anybody got one that fits the specs above that they'd recommend?

I have one of the modern Belkin wireless routers and I have to say I have had no issues with it BUT as you are not a fan I would suggest looking at the Linksys range of wireless routers. Linksys are owned by Cisco.

Check out the Linksys range on Pixmania

    Who is your ISP?

    3 votes for Linksys. Cool.

I've been looking at their range. Some nice features in those models.

StillBallyGowan - My ISP is Irish Broadband.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I've had two Linksys (one was a upgrade) both have given me no trouble. WAG54GS. It's a few years old, the newer routers have 'N' as standard and not G''

Ok, the reason I ask is I am with UPC (NTL) and if I have connection issues it's 'cos of them as opposed to my Belkin hardware.

Nah. I've ruled them out by plugging my PC in directly. Stays up for days. Plug in router and it goes down about twice a day. A power cycle to the router gets it going again. IBB are pretty good. I've had about 2 days downtime (because of them) in 3 years.

i got a Dlink-DGL4500 from australia and i can honestly say its the best router iv ever used. Its easy to configure and your good to go in minutes. Also if your a gamer it can detect gaming data packets being send back to the router and gives that computer or console optimal speeds. You can also check who's logged onto the router as well as info such as mac and i address by viewing it from the screen on the router. Its great.

If you're ok with going an extra mile, you can upgrade your firmware to give a little extra power. I'd recommend linksys as well.

I'm fairly sure linksys is in there with a lot of models. The plus side to this is that you can buy a cheap router with little features and upgrade the firmware to add lots of extras.

The WRT54G is Standard Issue as far as im concerned. Highly reccomended.

However it does not provide USB access points like some of the newer routers, which will let you hook up hard drives and printers straight into the network - imo thats becomeing more of a selling point, when everything is becoming laptops and wireless. Also, its G. G is on the way out. You dont want to worry for years to come? You need to go to the new signal format, N. Anything you buy new from here on will have an N adapter anyway.

No USB on this, but it will be Linksys's new standard I figure
