Never a hugh fan of the Mk 1 I have to say, I think its those dials.

That "review" of the Chantilly catering was amusing to read.

I love the dash, I think if you're going to do different then you might as well go the whole way!

I have to say i do like the CX, and in Prestige form they're massive. I saw a pair side by side at Terenure this year, a gold and a silver version iirc, and i was amazed at the legroom in the back.
As for the dash - well, Citroens of that period were ahead of themselves, and everyone else, so futuristic dash it is  i always thought French cars of the late 60s to mid 70s were a bit leftfield in terms of design, and are to be saluted for it. They mightn't have got it right everytime, but they scored some beauties.
Would a CX make a usable daily driver? I'd love one, but i think it would have to be part of my lotto winning fleet for now

+1 on the review, no mention of torque/power to weight/cupholders/yadayada

I own this one, GTi Turbo2, wonderful car, and I dont see why a good CX cannot be used as an everyday car.

i've owned several CXs over the years... both petrol and turbo diesel, including 2 Mk1 Prestiges and a GTI Turbo 2.. They're probably one of the nicest and most useable modern classics :D

Diravi steering takes a bit of getting used to though :-)

what's this Dave? I read in the review above that the steering is ultra-direct, but can you explain how this actually feels?

Diravi stands for Direction à Rappel Asservi... The steering is ultra direct, but when you let go of the steering wheel, it automatically goes back to the neutral point, and of course this is hydraulically assisted, so quite violent. If you're in a bend and you let the steering wheel slide back into the neutral position, you'll find yourself in a ditch :-)

It's a brilliant system is you want to park the car though, cos it's effortless. I think in english it's called Variable Speed Auto-Returning Power Steering... You'd find this on the last DS models (top of the range only), most CX models, all SMs, and the Mk1 XM V6 models as well. Never really understood why Citroën decided to abandon the concept because once you get used to it, it's brilliant.

 thats one way to keep both hands 'feeding the wheel'! I'd say more than a few people have been caught out with it..

Yes... I remember our local Citroën dealer selling a nice brand new Mk2 CX to some elderly gentleman, who consequently crashed it into the side of the showroom when he collected it, despite repeated warnings from the sales guy :D

Yeah but its not worth 6 grand...Is it even worth half that? There's been a few on the net now for a while at mad money and they're going nowhere. Only their owners seem to think they're worth that kinda dough. Here's a better value one...

Six grand is pushing it a bit, but I remember that car selling for over 3k sterling not too long ago, factor in VRT and currency and it probably cost him 5K Euro!
A good CX will find a buyer for more than you might think.

The DS never had Diravi from the factory. A shame, as it is a brilliant system (unlike the DS's heavy steering. Power assisted my ass!)

Are you sure about that? I was convinced that in the early 70s, some DSs had the Diravi... Maybe it was available as an option?
