Twice in two days Batt O'Keeffe has advised those performing well in maths and science subjects in this year's leaving cert to apply for tech and science courses in college. The minister seems completing unaware that the process for applying for places was completed by these leaving cert students months ago.

"I’d urge students who've performed well in the Leaving Certificate in relevant subjects to consider courses in the science, technology and engineering sectors. These areas offer qualifications vital to economic recovery and growth, with exciting career prospects for graduates," he said.

Best of luck to all getting their results today.

Not trying to defend him or anything, but there it is likely that i) one if you did well in science you already applied for a realted course and ii) what about those who are taking a year out or don't get what they hoped for?

Having said that politicians can say the silliest things!

I take that to mean that he encourages students who are currently preforming well in LC maths and science to consider such courses

Maybe he's urging people who have those courses among their cao choices to accept them instead of non-science/technology/engineering courses.
