Extended Warranty for iPhone

Long-term ipod user and up until now I have never been tempted to buy the extended warranties they offer . . always thought it was a money making scam . .

However, yesterday my iphone died and it got me thinking . . Regardless of what your contract is with your service provider the warranty on the iphone is a standard 12 months. If it breaks after the 12 months you are scuppered and looking at a big bill for replacement . . . and O2 won't entertain you . .

Luckily I only had mine 10 months so I had no problem but as I was speaking to the support guy yesterday he managed to sell me an extra years coverage for €69 . . At least now my iphone is covered until my contract expires. . On top of that with the extra coverage you are entitled to a service called Advanced Replacement. So when I logged a call yesterday, they immediately shipped me a new phone, overnight courier. When the courier arrives today I take the phone, put in my sim and should be up n running straight away. He will then take my old iphone with him and return it to apple.

    Seems like a well spent €69 to me . . .

Sounds like a good idea if you plan on hanging on to your phone longer than a year (i.e. not upgrading with every new model).

Of course if you have phone insurance you are somewhat covered for faults, though they are likely to be a nightmare to deal with if you had issues.

    Quick update. .

Problem started at 10am yesterday, called Apple, purchased Extended warranty, logged problem and arranged advanced replacement. Brand new iphone arrived at 9:30 this morning; inserted SIM, connected to Macbook . . back in action by 10am.

Pretty impressive that within 24 hours of failure I had recovered all my data etc onto brand new iphone :)

Well worth the €69, and I have another 14 months of comfort.

If you are going to get it, get it off ebay, much cheaper. I have done this 3 times for various macbooks and its always worked fine.just make sure and go with a seller that sells a good fe w of them and has lots of good feedback. This is an easy sale to be scammed on.

You can buy it from Apple but if anything is wrong with it even in the factory 12 month warrenty, you have to have an italian address where apple can pick it up, repair it and drop it back. This applies to the apple care also. That might be a problem if you don't have a friend in Italy!!

If your phone breaks under this cover - expect to be using a brick for a month while they determine what the problem is - at which point they'll probably tell you it was your fault and gfy.

You get what you pay for with Apple care, imo.

Complete rubbish, I had mine replaced within 24 hrs, and it was accidental.

You've obviously had better experiences than I have. I loathe to take my chances with phone insurance these days.
