    Howaya,

I'm sure this thread has been done before but what the hey, if you can help with links all the better.

Am in the market for something diesel, automatic, family size (A4 or C-class type), for around the 5 or 6k mark.

Nothing really out of the market for me, apart from maybe a few of the Japanese import types (legacy etc), and if the right petrol comes along then I wouldn't turn it down.

    Any linkies muchly appreciated:o

I'm assuming this is a joke and you know that a Japanese car will be far more reliable than any of the makes you mentioned.:) At that kind of money I think you need to focus on the particular car rather than narrowing it down to a specific make/model.

No it's actually not a joke.
I'm not that fussy, which is my problem really.
I wouldn't rule out something Japanese, once it has a decent enough spec and interior.
    Any suggestions?

The Japs didn't really do diesel and automatic combined back then.

    Something like a Rover 75:

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

E39 525/530d is the only way to go for a diesel auto in that budget. There are Mercs out there but they're spectacularly ugly before 2002. I'd say Rover 75 but even the '04 is bit overpriced at that.

Off topic, the number of private sellers who try to sell without paying the VRT really annoys me.
