    Hi everyone.

After i complete my theory test, when can i drive.....?
Do i have to wait for my license?...how long does that take to come through?

Or can i apply for insurance on the basis that my lisense is pending and drive straight away?

    Regards,
    Duncanb

Sorry to jump in, but as an aside; How long after your theory test do you have to sit your test before having to take the theory test again? (I know you have to wait 6 months to sit it)

Firstly, quick correction - you wont get a License you will get a Learner Permit.

You have to wait for your actual Learner Permit before you can drive. Once you pass the Theory Test and have all relevant other documentation (eye sight report etc) you can apply immediately for the Learner Permit. Depending on your Motor Tax Office it may be issued immediately and given to you over the counter or more common now is it will be posted to you. Even if it is being posted it will only take 3-5 days at the very most.

You cant get insurance until you have your Learner Permit as the insurance company will want to see a copy of it but you can certainly get quotes on the basis that you will have it.

The theory test certificate is valid for 2 years so once you pass the theory test you have 2 years to convert it to a Learner Permit. The 6 month waiting period starts from the date you get your Learner Permit not the theory test so there is no real advantage is holding onto the theory test cert.
