Hey all, I'm no expert in tv's,

Only recently bought my first flatscreen, cheapest one going at the time.

I've just found DTV channels but only getting sound, no picture. (Just plugged into aerial in attic, usually pick up the 4 bog channels)

Living in Meath, tv's an LG 32LG3000 http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/tvs/lg-32lg3000/manufacturer-specifications/

Can anyone shed some light on the DTV or should I just stick to my "bog standards"

The tv you have only has the freeview capabilities I believe for the UK i.e. MPEG2, wheres our DTV system will be the newer MPEG4 system. So for now you will be only able to receive the Analog Terrestrial channels..

Into the future most tvs will be able to be upgraded by addition of a MPEG-4 card or use of a Digital Terrestrial box which will convert the signal to digital and some tv's will be able to upgraded via software updates.

Hi Seanieke , stevon explained the reasons behind the problem your having. There is a possible way to recieve Irish signal on your TV If your TV has a common interface slot (CI slot). You can buy a CI card that decodes the mpeg-4 signal and allows for picture and sound , I checked your TV spec and I think it has the CI slot.

The card can be bought on ebay for 61 euro delivered :- http://cgi.ebay.ie/Irish-DTT-MPEG4-to-MPEG2-Viaccess-CAM_W0QQitemZ250473789110QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioElectronicsVideo_Video_TelevisionSetTopBoxes?hash=item3a5166b6b6&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

The guy selling these has a shop based is based in kildare town , If the card doesn't work he says in his ebay advert he will give a refund. Ask his advice I'm sure he'll help you out.

You might find them cheaper if you look around.

    Hope this helps

The Neotion MPEG4 Cam WILLwork in the LG 3000 as confirmed in this thread before. They are available at the links above, from Saor TV or on ebay. For €60 it will enable your digital tuner.

You stick them into the slot labelled PCMCIA

Thanks for the advice guys!! I wouldn't mind but I asked the guy (Harvey Normans in Mullingar) will it get the new freeview & he said yes!

Note to self, buy from advice given on boards!

    he didnt lie..!!!

Technically it can receive freeview (if you live in the north or in an area that can receive it from the UK. )

Wonder if you asked him if it would receive the new RTE digital service what his reply would have been.? probably "oh yea no problem "

for €60 cant go wrong with the cam..

Don't buy a CAM type module (Neotion). I've tested these.

Wait till service launches (likely in Q4 2010) as it's only tests and you may have long periods with no channels till Q4 2010.

Then consider a setbox with a Hard Disk and HDMI output. Recording Scheduling via TV guide on Screen, probably including series links and maybe over 100hrs recording time. Playback is identical quality to live signal.

Buy nothing for Irish DTT till the service is launched. Analogue switch off is not until some years after.
