I never done the actual event itself, but would have done the routes itself several times. Myself and a couple of buddies use it when we want a hard day on the bike!!! It's tough going, that I can assure you, defintely the hardest 100km I know of.

There's a hill on Mount Leinster (just after the Nine Stones climb) that leaves up to a TV mast and I reckon, in my limited experience of cycling, it's the hardest climb in Ireland. It's 25 minutes out of the saddle stuff, messes with the head big time - a great challenge, mentally and physically. You don't have to do it, it's up and back down the same road but the option is there to have it as part of the cycle. If Blorg is coming down for this one, I hope he has a crack at it, to see if my claim (being the hardest in Ireland) is correct.

Like I said earlier, never actually done the event but giving that it's Carlow CC that's running it and going by their other events (Carlow 150km and Sliabh Bloom), I'm sure it will be well organised.

Can't wait for it, it will be my first time on the bike in 4 weeks. Actually to come to think of it, I can wait!!

We certainly went up Mt Leinster last year but the route didn't send us up to the TV mast. I thought it was very well run and really enjoyed it. If anyone is half thinking about doing the event, I say go for it.

its a real leg breaker. the first hill (corrabutt gap) and the forth hill ( mile bush ) are the steepest. the descent off mile bush into old leighlin is a bit hairy too. i remember when i did it a few years ago there was a sign sprayed on the road saying ' GEAR DOWN NOW!!!' before we turned for the corrabutt gap. it wasnt a lie. Carlow club organise good spins

It's on the route but is not part of the route if you get my drift. Basically the first climb of the cycle is the dreaded Corribut Gap, then Nine Stones which is a piece of p1ss after doing the Corribut Gap. Just after the Nine Stones there's a car park on your right hand side with a look out area. On your left is a wall/very steep road that is closed off by a gate. Throw your bike and yourself over the gate, reset your HRM watch and be prepared to break all kind of records on it. Once finish, you come down the hill and re-join the route.

If you read the Carlow CC's description of the route, they have it as an optional hill but not part of the 5 hills mentioned.

Yea, I'm definately in. Had to see doctor today and nothing of any importance wrong with me, just an awkward injury. He didn't ask me if I was cycling this weekend so I didn't tell him :D

It certainly was humpy. It was well put together, food stop good and all the the cake and tea I could get into me after. The medal was a nice touch. The route, Croaghan and Mt. Leinster were long and it was good to see the improvements on the decent. Hill 3, cake hadn't settled, battle to the top and the decent was hairy. Out of Old Laughlin, oh baby, what a decent. Hill 5, the last one and seeing a Kilkenny flag only encouraged me. After the turn onto the main road, I saw a sign 10km to Carlow which meant one thing, big ring and it was fast. Adding 5km by going on the inner relief road was a bit sneaky!!!!!
I highly recommend this to anyone next year and my thanks to Carlow RCC for organising this splendid day.

This is my third Carlow CC event this year and these guys know how to run a sportive. The Humpy Hundred was probably my toughest 100k this year but also one of the most enjoyable. Sandwiches, tea, cake, hills, mountains and a medal - what more could you ask for a tenner! Be back next year with a few more from Naas CC.
