No Bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, etc

    My Dell Inspiron 6400 is`nt detecting the hard drive, its a few years old but the HD is half it age. I removed the HD and put it back in and no change, ran the full diagnostics was completed like normal, also tried to reinstall Vista from cd was going ok til it could`nt find the HD. Tried the ALT F and it just beeps. Is there anything else I can try before I bring it to the shop to be fixed, cheers folks.

    Have you tried the Startup Repair from the Vista CD itself? It's very useful, here's a detailed guide:

    You could try the Ultimate Boot CD or the Ubuntu Live CD. Both downloadable, googleable and burnable.

    Well I used ubuntu went to Paces/Computers and it found cd-rw/dvd drive and filesystem. It did`nt find the C drive. What should I do?
