I'm thinking of running the second half of the DCM route for at least one of my training runs. Problem is I live in Limerick so it would be a day trip just for a run. Anyway, if I do decide to do that, can anyone tell me the best way to get from Heuston Station to Mile 9 - Chapeilzod Bridge/St. Laurence Road?.

    Thanks

Come out of the station. Turn left. Cross the Liffey and turn left. Follow the road for about 2 miles and you will arrive at Chapelizod. The Liffey will be on your left and the Phoenix Park on your right

If you come out the part of Heuston Station that faces the Luas, turn left, cross the bridge. Turn left again and you're on Parkgate St.

This road becomes Cunningham road which leads you to Chapelizod. You could easily go through the Park from there. Parkgate St I mean.

If you are getting the train to Heuston, you have a number of options to join in with the marathon course....

    1) come out of main entrance to train station to luas. turn left and cross over the liffey. turn left again onto parkgate st. walk up to pedestrian lights. From here you should see a big building site on your r.h.s and the main entrance to the park just past this. Turn right here and go up the road with the big hill running along side the building site (Infirmary Road). Go to the top of this road (couple of hundred metres) and you will be at the entrance where the marathon enters into the park. About mile 4

    2) follow same instructions as 1, except this time go into the park through the main gate at top of parkgate st/bottom of cunningham road. go straight up main road of park about 1/2 mile and you will come to the zoo. The little road just after the entrance to the zoo (Lords Way), is where the course joins the main road. About mile 4.5

    3) follow same instructions as above, but don't go into the park at all. follow the cunningham road running parallel to the park and the river. (a busy road but plenty of buses go up it). about 2 miles up that road you will come to Donore Harriers and a little church. Just before this church there is a set of pedestrian lights at a gate to the park. This is the gate the marathon leaves the park. About mile 8.

    4) follow instructions for 3. Continue on past the little church up to the next junction. turn left and cross the bridge. turn left and this is St Laurence road. About mile 9.

    5) when you get off the train exit the station from entrance on r.h.s. The entrance where the toilets and tkt counters are. you will be at the taxi rank. turn right and continue up main road about 1/2 mile to a major junction/roundabout. turn left here and about 100 metres up the road is a hilton hotel. This is where inchicore road meets sth circular road. About mile 10.5.

If you are planning to run all the way to the finish, remember the last mile of the course is a lap around Trinity college, via Pearse st. So at mile 25 you'll run very close to the finish line, but still have to do that last 1 mile lap.

You might want to save that for the actual day itself....:)
