    Good Afternoon,

I was wondering if there are any members on this forum from Lucan. Thinking of applying for membership and just looking for any information. ie Member Profile, timesheet access, practice area, winter golf etc.

I have played it a couple of times over the last couple of months and have been impressed. Big selling point for me is the location as I live about 1/2 mile from the course.

    Any information would be appreciated.

I live in celbridge and the course would be very handy

when I moved there I rang them and the guy practically started laughing at the idea. He heavily emphasized "did I know/was I related to a member" old style stuff.

I dont know whether the recession has softened their stance recently, worth a try i suppose.

Well he probably would laugh at you now. They've been advertising memberships on their site for a good bit now...

    Entrance Fee €1,200 per annum
(For a Period of 10 Years)
    Annual fee for 2009 €500
    Bar & restaurant levy €200
    Full membership rights immediately.

Not a bad course at all, but not one i'd pay 12 grand, albeit over 10 years, to join.

Lucan in my experience is an alright course, nothing spectacular and by god not worth 12,000 over 10 years or whatever. I recall the 1st is a real good driving hole, and the course does hold up well but not worth that kind of money.

I could only imagine that Lucan are actively looking for members? Strange that someone got a bad reaction when making an enquiry, I would say give it possibly a year and there’ll be an annual membership package available there, unfortunately for clubs and fortunately for your average joe soap, membership, due to the recession is going this way….. I see Seapoint is offering this type of package of something like €1,800 a year

yes well as i said perhaps the recession has changed things

the €12000 is a lot in the current climate as a joining fee

you are basically committing to paying €1,900 a year (at least) for 10 years

at present I lease a share membership in Kileen for the annual sub €1,300 a year... no long-term commitment..guess i have to consider if an extra 600 or 700 a year is worth it for full membership

The course at lucan is decent enough and well maintained

I had numerous conversations with them earlier in the year about joining. No budging from the 12k joining fee. At first it was 6k up front and 6k over 6 years (structured as a loan i.e. paying interest!). Then they called me back to offer 1200 a year for 10 years. I told them I wasn't interested in any sum over 2k. They still called me back twice to try to talk me round though.
It's not a great course imo, but it is so handy for me. Hoping they see sense this year and reduce that joining fee for 2010.

As an aside, should some of these clubs not introduce a new membership category that abolishes the joining fee, but won't piss off those that paid 12k just a few years ago? Maybe a limited-time 'associate membership' offer where they waive the joining fee, but you can only join for 1-3 years? Then, if you want to stay, you pay up the full amount? Anyone doing anything like this?

I think you’ve made a lot of sense there. A lot of these clubs don’t want to piss off excising members or simply annoy themselves who also paid the joining fee to totally drop it. Therefore the best option to please both parties…. i.e. the excising members and the banks!! (who really owns numerous clubs around the country, not talking about Lucan) is too offer a fix term three year membership in a sensible price range (so some new money is coming in) than assess the economic situation before coming up with a joining fee….
