Screen goes black when playing games

Hiya,

I have noticed recently that my screen goes blank while playing games. Not straight away but maybe after the game is on for 5 mins. Then it flickers between normal and blank again! The game itself doesn't crash, I can still hear it in the background.

Its perfectly fine when just doing normal computing. I have a decent setup that is well capable of the latest games. I have the latest drivers for the card so I am not sure what the issue is!

Any ideas appreciated!

Yea, it happened with 3 different games! Which previously worked ok on it!

I have the ATI 4870. There was never a problem before and as I said its only when I start to play a game! The screen goes blank on and off!

are you able to kill the game with altF4 or task manager?

or even alt-tab to the desktop when it happens?

Just loaded a game to double check and now its not going blank! typical! :rolleyes:

Possibly check yer ATI Control Panel before playing and try knocking up the gpu fan speed just in case it's not spinning up under load anyway.

Ok back with the same prob! Although it doesn't happen as quickly! I could be playing the game for 20mins then it goes blank! But when I pause and minimise the game for a few mins its back to normal again!

I installed GPU-Z but haven't a clue what I am looking at!

I played a game again and it went blank so I quickly Alt-Tabbed to GPU-Z and this is what I got:
