Didn't it used to be a free option with the older generation MacBook Pro that had both display options? €45 is pretty damn steep...

If its a professional machine you're buying and require matt then €45 isn't that expensive when you compare to overall price of the machine.

€45 for a bag of sweets is a bit steep.

At least they listened. Although they should really have this as an option across their entire notebook line-up.

My question was more if there was a price difference between matte/glossy back in the non-unibody generation MBPs, when both screens were available - if there wasn't, charging €45 kinda sucks, but if you need it then you have no choice really... (just like the display adapters, remote and other stuff that used to be included/free but now isn't).

hate the glossy screens, got the last gen macbook pro before the unibody model. hope to get another couple of years out of it. I can replace the lcd panel myself when it fades a little, ive noticed its not as bright as it used to be.

ive dropped this one loads of times and its still running. jumped out of a train as the doors were closing with it in one hand open and it fell to the ground, some cosmetic damage but it started up again fine.

there was a company working on a perfect conversion to matte for macbooks that cost around 150dollars, looks like they wont have as much business

Likewise, I find the glossy screens really annoying. Have a couple of them in work, find myself constantly moving away from window reflections or overhead lights reflecting. Hope my old G4 PowerBook lasts another while as it'll be a while before I can afford one of those lovely new unibody machines.
