Onkyo TX-SR607

    Hello to Richer Sounds!

I'm looking at starting to upgrade to the next level of AV... starting with an AV receiver. My own research is pointing me in the direction of the Onkyo TX-SR607, but let me lay out what I need, and maybe you'll have a better suggestion!

I have a DVD player, Sky Box, Wii (component), and (original) xbox (component) I need to connect. My current TV has HDMI in, so I reckon that's the input method for there.

Ideally I would like the AV receiver to upscale the video signals to HD (current TV is HD ready only, but definitely moving to Full HD over the next few months).

As I'll be doing this incrementally, I would want the AV receiver to be able to pipe sound over HDMI to the TV at first, until I upgrade to surround sound (I have a pair of Mission 733's, but not sure about the space for them at the moment).

I would like to spend less than €400 on the receiver. I'm willing to wait until your next stock take is due to save a bit also!!

    Bail,

apologies for the delay in getting back to you!

Yep, the 607 is a really excellent Receiver and if you are looking at that price level you should also have a look at the excellent Denon AVR1910.

However...they do both cost a bit more than your €400 budget but in my opinion I would not compromise - I would hold out for them as they really are head and shoulders above their smaller brethern in terms of connectivity and performance!

Thanks again and apologies for the delay in getting back to you,

    ATB,

    John Mc

    I see the 607 is £499 on richersounds.ie or around €580, it's €479 on komplett.ie right now.

Richer sounds used to be the best prices around... not for the 607.

What's your best price on the 607?

One swallow does not a summer make,

No problem doing a price beat at all - €469.99 delivered!

(getting close to the old €400 budget now 'eh ;))

Just an update on the Komplett 607 price direct from Onkyo:

    Hi John

I can confirm that Komplett is not an authorised Onkyo dealer in any country in Europe and therefore it`s important to tell customers that none of our European service agents will do repairs under warranty on any stock bought from them .

However I'm still happy to do a price beat! :D

    Thanks again,

That's good to know... though I would like to think a nice piece of kit will keep working!!

John, I e-mailed about a month ago about a full setup too, now that I have your attention, thought I'd ask again:
I'm looking for a setup for a home cinema. Nothing is set in stone yet, except the location, which is in a basement, so the room can be made very dark easily (I don't have dimensions of the room to hand).

I'm looking at either a large flat screen tv, at least 42" (FullHD), or possibly a projector. Surround sound is important, the setup has to be 'parent proof' too, so simple, simple, simple! There will be a sky+ box too, that needs to connect to the surround sound.

If it's a projector setup, a screen is required too obviously (possibly use the screen wall paint option though), and if it's a tv a wall mount will be needed too.

I'm sure you know if I'm forgetting anything essential for a setup, if so, I'd like to know!

Price around €1,500-€2,000, but if you have something spectacular I could be convinced!

If I was getting the full kit above, AND the Onkyo 607, what's your best price!?

I agree and to be fair Onkyo has a great reputation for reliability - however would you not prefer to buy it from your local cuddly authorised dealer (sorry, even I feel sick myself after saying that!)

OK- we did have a down period about 3-4 weeks ago so apologies if you were in that crack :o.

We are really bad on projectors at the moment so I am ashamed to say I cannot quote you on this (new range arriving September!)

But in 42" LCD/Plas we have lots of options - if you allow the aforementioned TXSR607 at €479 - add in a Tannoy SFX pack at €229.99 to give a total of €708.99 - that leaves us about €1300 to play with (of course I'm going to go for the higher €2000 figure you mentioned!) so really in 42/47" Flat screen the world is your oyster!

If it was me I would spend a little less than that on the TV (maybe €1000ish) and bump up the speaker spec a little - so something like this

    Onkyo TXSR607 AV Receiver
Monitor Audio Radius 45HD 10 5.1 pack (2 pairs Radius 45HD Satellite, 1 Radius 180HD AV Centre, 1 Radius 360HD Subwoofer, including wall brackets)
    LG 50PQ6000 600HZ MPEG4 Plasma
    Wall Bracket
    50 Mtrs decent speaker cable
    Panasonic 5 Mtr HDMI cable
    Philips BDP3000 Blu ray DVD

€2199.99 (ok so I blew the budget a bit - but I did throw in lots of bits extra and gave you an extra 8" of telly!)

If you went for the 42" PQ6000 it would leave you bang on budget at €1999!

Thanks again for all the patience and the opportunity to quote!

    Brian,

That's pretty basic stuff and I'm embarrassed that you had to ask! -I must post a sticky with that basic information!

We are based in the centre of Belfast - directly at the back entrance (cheap end!) of Castle Court Shopping centre.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=bt11dd&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=43.848534,92.900391&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=A

Parking is plentiful (we will pay your parking of you purchase from us!) the traffic wardens are uniquely friendly (strange they all have great hi-fi systems....) but watch out for the in-store stall - they are all complete geeks!

If you are coming up - always drop us a line and we will reserve whatever you are interested in!

If you want to order online - have a look around at www.richersounds.co.uk and once the item is available drop us a mail/phone us or post on Boards and we will do our best to get it to you - we deliver daily to the ROI (except Sundays) and most kit is despatched on a next day basis.

We are very Boardie friendly so always drop me a line and we will do our best price for Boardies if we have any wriggle room at all.

Thanks for the post - I'll do up a sticky and as ever drop me a line if you have any queries,

    ATB,

    John Mc

It's tempting! I forgot to mention though, that I'd need a DVD player in the mix aswell.

If I was to go with the tv,dvd,AV,speaker package, I would be looking at the another 607 seperately, what is the best price you could give me on the lot? i.e. two 607s plus all the other stuff?

How about a 2 for 1 offer on the 607's!?!
