Does anyone think its worth it to stay on and so a masters or to go out and work with just a Bsc.?

Like I have always been lucky getting jobs and have plenty of contacts!

Is the return good enough if you do a masters? Money Wise

Now is the perfect time to do a Masters.
The job market is not great.
In a year the price of a Masters, as well as every other form of Higher Education will have risen.
I'm not sure if you have a chance of making MORE money, but if you want to do it, I would say that now is better than in a few years' time.
    That's what I'm doing.
Ignore the fact that I really don't want to work though! ;)

Ha! Thing is I like working! Ye it is expensive enough as it is!

Its just its harder to get a part time job in college!

Ye its debatable! Suppose now is a good time

    cheers

In that case I'd apply for a Masters in the off-chance you don't get anything, and try your best to get working.
I don't think there'd be a big difference in having a Masters of not.
Although possibly you'd be considered for a certain job after you have a Masters in your field, but not before.
But if you're talking straight up dollars I'd say there's not much difference, if any at all.

Im kinda Money Hungry! Well being honest I wanna get a job to get a house but I wanted to do a masters but feel that when this NAMA thing comes in house prices will drop and it'd be a great time to buy

It's a killer when you really want to work but there just isn't anything...I would say go for the masters, especially with the way things are going..

Try and stay in as long as you can......
Post grads can avail of the grant scheme too depending on ur situation also there is the Post Grad student assistance fund....

In the same boat at the moment, I've been offered a place at NUIM on an MSc. programme but I'm getting a longing for some disposable income before I'm too old to enjoy it. Luckily it doesn't start until January so I have that much time to look for work and then make a decision.

    Tough call though.

Ye i would love to stay on! But aslo I am young I want to get my house while the market is like this, possibly get a nice car, holiday as oppose to this recession being over and house prices going back up after I finish a 2year masters

Ya but at the moment there is a slim chance of getting a job......after 4 yrs of uni you dont wanna be stuck on a shipping line in Phizers packing boxes and hoping to go back to uni one day......

I know that feeling all too well but I keep lookin at it as I will be more qualified and in something I will like.

True! Thats another thing! My subject is very Broad! I wouldnt know what to specialise in! To be honest, I have always known wat my next step was going to be! I started by wanting to do TY, then in 5th year I knew I wanted to go to NUI to do this course and all of a sudden I am lost.

See I have been working part time and fulltime(During the summer) Since I was 15! So I can always get a job!

    Ha confused

Nope, graduated with a 1st this year, which made life a hell of a lot easier in terms of securing a masters, but still no sign of employment. (see my sig!)

Heading to the Netherlands for a few months, girlfriend got a marketing job with Tourism Ireland in Amsterdam, so going to try get a job out there and if nothing happens come back and do the MSc. I've been offered.

That sounds deadly! wud love to get a job abroad but that is probably hard to do!

U did a science degree! Think that'll be harder to get a job out of?

    Well done on the 1st

Cheers, not really Science, Town Planning is extremely multi-disciplinary so it's fairly adaptable to a lot of jobs.

As regards getting a job abroad, I'm starting to hear a few positive noises coming back from places that I e-mailed.

It's all about options at the moment in my opinion, apply for as many things as you can, give yourself as many options as possible.

    Ye i like that idea!

Throw CV's in everywhere apply for MAtsers Etc.

    Sounds good!

My subject is very broad too! Plenty of jobs but at the same time not very specialised in one thing
