In fairness I wouldnt put too much emphasis on it, look at some of the others who didnt make it ; Ken McGrath, Pat Fox, Brian Corcoran, Declan Ryan, Tommy Dunne etc etc yet the likes of Stephen McDonagh and Jerry o Connor are on it

To be fair, not much got past McDonagh, a lovely tidy hurler and a tight marker.

I have to say that I rate Corcoran as being a better hurler than Carey, and McGrath as being up there with him also. As one poster already pointed out, the thing to do would have been to put Corcoran corner back (a position from which he won hurler of the year) instead of McDonagh and Carey centrefield instead of O'Connor. Unfortunately they were working with some kind of nominations system which restricted it considerably.

You can only put 15 players on any of these teams, so there is always going to be great players left out and people will have different opinions on who should be on it. You could pick several groups of 15, all of which would have great merit. No one can argue that the players that are on it are not great, and no one can argue that players that are not on it are not great. So this is the kind of thread that can go around in circles.

Agreed grenache and I wasnt having a go here I was just highlighting that because of the nomination systen they used far better players were ommitted I mean he was a very capable and reliable corner back but would you rate him as highly as Corcoran, Ken McGrath or Ciaran Carey??

Also the selection that baffeled me most was Jerry O'Connor at midfield a fine hurler no doubt and part of a very good Cork team but in the top 2 midfielders in Munster in the last 25 years is a bit much - Colin Lynch, Ollie Baker, Tommy Dunne all far more deserving IMO but hey there was 2 Cork men on the 3 man selection panel ;) suprised they got a team out without going on strike first tbh :p

He never won an All Ireland though, great but flawed hurler, often found wanting in defence whilst sparkling in attack.

Where is the full team available to view? Is it on the Examiners website? Or just today's paper?
