Help, my wireless networking adapter won't work

I have a friend's ACER 5920G and am trying to fix it. The wireless network adapter has stopped working for some reason.

In the Windows Network and Sharing centre when I run the diagnose tool it tells me the Windows Wireless Service isn't running. When I do activate it, Windows tells me it can't fix the problem.

In sharing and discovery network discovery is off and when I turn it on the Sharing Centre seems to freeze.

When I click manage network connections there is a large X beside the wireless network connection and it reads Not Connected. I've tried clicking connect and repair/diagnose to no avail.

When I run device manager I can see my wireless network adapter and it says that this device is working properly.

Acer has its own wireless networking software but everytime I try to use it, it crashes.

Are there any things I can try to get the wireless network adapter working again?
