Sinn Féin gathers for strategy talks?

Sinn Féin gathers for strategy talks? Is this the same strategy talks that the Progressive Democrats had after the last election?

Ms Ferris said that Sinn Féin was suffering from 'an identity crisis' and that it is regarded as a 'Northern party', which means nothing to most people in the south. Finally the truth, Sinn Fein means nothing to us in the republic. I mean to have an elected TD greet the killers of a Garda when the leave prison its a utter disgrace!.

Its time that Sinn Fein follow the same path as the PD's.

My common sense vision of Sinn Fein in the south is a party that opposes everything and makes no positive contribution to ROI politics.

To be honest if Sinn Fein want to mean something to people in the south of Ireland then maybe they should stop meeting convicted Garda killers on their release from jail.

On a a national level Sinn Féin are a joke in this country, but they are far better at a local level.

Hopefully they will try to seperate themselves as much as possible from the Northern Party and maybe even elect a new party leader for the Republic.

    My two cents.

Sinn Feins vote was always a class vote. By attempting to move to the centre (Hello Mary Lou, dropping certain economic policies that might not please 'the decklanders' etc.) they've actually alienated some of their own core voters, who have merely moved further left (Joe Higgins becoming an MEP, the success of the PBP Alliance, the fact even O' Snodaigh looked a bit ropey for that Dail Seat, and the emergence of Eirigi are all proof of this)

If all they have is the Green Flag, they serve no purpose.

I think there is still a place for sinn fein in Irish politics. Many people still share their ideals of a united Ireland and some even remember that the war the provo's fought in the north for 30 years, was justified and necessary, given that Catholics were treated as second class citzens.
They just need to get some real policies and keep their socialist outlook. There is no room nor need for another centre party. It will be a slow process to build any tangible vote share and maybe impossible, but, as long as they stay true to there ideals i'm sure they have a place, How important a place that will be is impossible to say.

It could be time for Republican Mitosis again.

The naming could be tricky, given that Real, Provisional, Official, Continuity, and Republican have all been used.

Finding a prefix that confers the right amount of legitimacy will be difficult. Perhaps a split into The One and Only Sinn Fein and Ultimate Sinn Fein might be on the cards.

I'm off to bed. I look forward to seeing what has happened to this thread when I get into work tomorrow.

    Should be amusing.

    Justified and necessary?

Good luck Mickos. You're going to need it.

They won't go under like the PDs. They're plenty rich, lots of local support. Youth support. In power in the North.

Me too. Oh well - looks like the Wolfe Tones thread used up all the anti-provo After Hours ire for the time being.

This strategy thing is just a rouse so Adams and Ferris can check into a hotel with Mary Lou and double team her!

Once they are finished, they should disband - irrelevant fcukwits

Firstly, I am a Massive Sinn Féin fan..

But recently I'm starting to get a bit pissed off with them.
They're doing bugger all in the south,

I pretty much vote for them in every election but over the last few years they just seem to have perfected sticking their thumb up there arses and ignoring everybody who they made promises to..

Also, Mary Lou isn't looking nearly as hot as she used to.

Bout time for some independents me thinks..

Also, Mary Lou has never spent 2 seconds in her life where anyone on earth ever would have considered her 'Hot'

As the o'l saying goes: "Fixed your post" :D

Honestly though there is a place for them in Irish politics
Its just not a place any right minded person would want to be

The do need to stick with their principals, drop the centralist policies and go back to the old ideals of wealth repatriation to Norn Iron.
