So, in the beginning there was a person, and this person had a fox problem. They stayed out night one and the fox got the better of them. Night two was no different and the problem persisted. Yet the person see's where the fox is emerging from undergrowth. Still, the barren luck spell draws out, and the damage continues.

To another, namely me, this is a frustrating exercise in how best to waste time. So a passing Samaritan offers a pearl of wisdom. Namely, snare that sucker. You've got his path, you've got him.

This potential solution to the problem was not only rejected bluntly, but also angrily. Barbaric, tantamount to torture...

    Harrumph.

You do not like snares? Well, OK.

You do not like shooting? Well, OK.

You do not like trapping? Well, OK.

    You have a fox problem?

Well get fupping used to it and shut up :D

Here endith the rant of John the foxer.

if snaring was an option would you ever be able to go to your FO to get a licence for your fox gun again?

The point is that if you have a problem, then you either solve it or you choose to accept it and move on. Occupying a middle ground of ineffective methods for the given situation allied with woe is me rarely solves anything.

To me a problem should be attacked using all options available, otherwise what is it? It wouldn't appear to be a problem otherwise, surely?

It's like saying, I need to get to china in a hurry, I'm going to cycle. You'll get there in the end but you could have taken a more efficient option.

It's all about options! And using them effectively. Right tool for the right job.

    No.

If you've a sore leg, go to the doctor, don't take over the counter painkillers for six months and complain to all and sundry about it for the next six months :D

A fox snare is designed to hold the caught animal. Properly set the fox will be sat there waiting for you very much alive. It should tighten when pressure is applied to it and loosen when the animal stops straining. Used properly a snare is humane and effective.

Anything used inappropriately will be inhumane.

. Properly set the fox will be sat there waiting for you very much alive. what will he do in the mean time ..twiddle his fore paws.... or try to escape in that case the snare will be constantly constricted on him

Then why have all of my snared foxes, bar one, been sat there waiting for me? :D

Used properly, is the important bit ;)

ok.. ok, i give..:D I' pretty sure its about as humane as me trying to shoot 'em . they are vermin after all and I'd say you wouldn't hear anyone bitch about rat traps or poision its, kill them by any and all means

I've seen to many of the poor fellas all skinny and starving only to end up pancaked, or twitching and half squashed on the M50 to be honest.

A good rifle would be the way for me tbh, I'm talkin 'Shooter' style here!

Good post John and it applies to lots of things in life.

I wouldn't know how to set a snare so I don't use them but I'd have no moral objections to using them as you describe
