Tiger Woods is the only logical bet.

i agree that Tiger will most likely win. I'm actually waiting on him to complete my double bet of Tiger winning WGC and USPGA. I have to say though that his erratic driver concerns me in Hazeltine. It's a massive course where he'll most likely have to use it regularly. I think it's around 7700 yards with three par fives of greater than 600 yards. Accuracy of the tee is going to be a premium i think.

It's funny, but Tiger has been in great form going into all the majors, but hasn't delivered.

He has won the week before every major this season. His strokeplay finishes this season are phenomenal:
    T9
    T1
    6
    4
    8
    1
    T6
    1
    CUT
    1
    1

Really hard to see beyond Tiger. For the last 2 or 3 years the top ten of the world rankings has been so changeable and though not everyone will agree on the system, it's fairly good indication of who's playing consistantly well week-in-week-out. Lately that's just Tiger. Where as before there was Mickelson, Els, Singh, Furyk, Goosen, Garica, Monty.... I think Steve Stricker has a major in him and Stewart Cink's confidence will be high after the Open and a good week at Firestone. Would love to see Harrington hit the ball like he did last week and give himself a good chance on sunday. I'd also like to see McIlroy or even Kaymer step up this week and show what they are capable of for 4 days.

I think its gonna be a weekend where someone wins a long overdue second major...Jim Furyk, Mike Weir would be my bets.
Of course Tiger aint gonna be too far off, runner up I'd say.

Would really like to see Harrington content to put last weekends nightmare behind him, which I expect he will. I have a feeling McIlroy will be up there too. Cant wait!!:)

Surely Padraig is worth an each way bet at 20-1? He was hitting the ball very well last week.

Seeing as though Hazeltine has been given a rating of 78 and a slope of 155 every player is, and if they aren't, they should be, expecting an extremely tough challenge. Along with that it's been reported, by Geoff Ogilvy, that the area has had buckets of rain recently and the course is playing super long.

Luke Donald is a past winner at the course, although it played easier when he won than what it will play this week, nevertheless, the greens haven't changed and Luke is an extremely good putter so expect to see him challenging at some point. At odds of 140/1 you could put your money in worse places.

Padraig Harrington played exceptional last weekend and finally his new, improved swing is coming to the fore. He was tied 6th is birdies scored last weekend, tied 3rd in driving distance, tied 2nd in eagles, that's fantastic form to take in to this week and expect to see him on top of the leaderboard once again. Outright win at 25/1 is a worthy bet but the 11/2 for top european player has my mouth watering.

Retief Goosen made only 4 bogeys and 1 double bogey last weekend the rest of his stats make for impressive reading and he can't go unbacked at 50's

2 outsiders worthy of a small bet are
    JB Holmes 240's
    YE Yang 310's

Will be keeping a close eye on Dustin Johnson.

Best of luck if anyone else is having a bet, should be a very intense weekend.

Trevor Immelman is out of this weeks event for anyone who was interested in him. He tweaked his left wrist hitting out of the rough on Sunday so he's had to pull out.

Lee Westwood is in form so he could feature.

tiger and padraig start pretty much as they finished last sunday.........

had to laugh at sandy lyle when asked about monty, obviously monty burned the ear off him yesterday

    mc dowell under par -2
rory -1 had it to -3
    clarke +2 thru 8

looks like the scores were made in the early part of the day,mc dowell said greens were a bit "chewed up", so with that and a little breeze looks like tiger is the man day 1.........ominous, gone to money on in the bookies all ready......ominious,but it would be nice to see hin and PH duke it out for the 4 days

I went for Villegas, Perry, JB Holmes and Pat Perez. Though the long course would suit Homes, he is 4 over so im obviously wrong. First major in 4 i haven't bet on Hunter Mahan and im regretting that now

i have €10 bet on paddy power/any tips?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

as im typing v.j. goes to -3 was going to say he'd be worth €5 e/w at 33/1 into 28's now and will have the course at its best tomorrow as would g. ogilvy 40/1........or do both €2.50 e.w.

    last of the big spenders:D

Thankfully have 2 good runners tomorrow, Harrington & Yang both at -6, Yang would be an immense result for me obviously at the price. Fingers crossed he can upstage Woods.

Good luck to everyone else who has a bet running

Did you not do it e/w with the bookies?

    No.

Not at that price. Rarely bet e/w on my golf selections. I prefer to have a larger amount on an outright win than have a small each way bet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,984 ✭✭✭Degag

Each to their own and all that... but i find that really silly. You'd be getting 44/1 on him finishing in the top 6. Well done though on your win.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 732 ✭✭✭Famous45

    Thanks.

On this occasion the betting office was only offering first 4 places, although thats irrelevant to me as with top 6 I would be getting a price alright, however, week in week out odds on each-way bets usually deteriorate badly due to the number of players finishing in those positions, so if you bet constantly each way you will be at an extreme loss profit wise, hence why I take the approach of placing a larger bet on the outright win because over the course of time I hope my profits would be far greater.

well done man.... great call on yang.
