    Anyone out there who can give me any info on where I can find a target/shooting range where I can get some practice for Gallery Rifle within an hour or less drive from Derry? North or South.

    Are you looking for a range or ground on which to practise..also are you insured?

    Hi, suppose I should have posted this as a club and not as a range. Have insurance through NRA and Countryside Alliance through a game club and a small bore target club that I am in, but are not passed for full bore shooting.

    Where are you living , if you are living in Derry there would be problems trying to join a club in Donegal, but there may be a chance that there would be ground available to shoot on if you get me, also are you looking for it on a permanent basis?

    Hi,
    There is a range at Lifford 100/200 yards available. Don't know much about it but if you go to www.nitsa.org.uk and contact David on the contacts page, he or Jim will be able to give you names and phone no's, failing that contact me @ seamusgi4szw@yahoo.co.uk and I will find out more.

    Eugene McCosker the local firearms dealer is the man to see,The range is 5o yards, they have a 100 yard range but it is out of use due to the new guidelines. Membership is strict and is vetted heavily and costs 500 for the first year and 150 per year thereafter.

    Sorry for not getting back sooner, I was ‘home’. I am assigned to a contract in the North West that could take up to a year to complete and the job will probably be split between me and two others on a rotation basis. This also covers your question of the temporary aspect. Personnel decided that Derry was the most convenient (cheapest) place to stay. I also read on this site that I may have a prohibited firearm under new Republic legislation.

    is this rifle a restricted firearm???

    That solves that situation.
    On the information that you guys have supplied it looks as if NITSA is the best option. Distance is a bit of a problem here but to attend an organised shoot day seems to be the best alternative to a whole lot of paper work.

    <edit: Duplicate stuff deleted -sparks>

    Anyway thanks to all who have taken the time and replied to my original request, it is very helpful and much appreciated.

    Wyatt, that stuff about the bracken club I've deleted from here, it's still up in the other thread. Just trying to stay on-topic in here.

    Wyatt, restricted does not mean prohibited. All it means is that the application goes higher up the food chain and you may need to have higher security arrangements depending on what else you own.

    Lots of people have lever action gallery rifles down here (usually .38 or thereabouts).

    Does that clarify things?

    It does,wasn't being awkward, suppose it all depends on whether they want to give a licence or not. Hard to tell really.
    Cheers
