This just beggars belief.:eek: Alton Towers Waterpark in the UK have announced that male swimmers using ther pools are no longer allowed to wear speedos or any other kind of swim suit other than "board shorts". The management of the waterpark said that speedos were not "family friendly" or "appropriate."

I kid you not. Here's a link to the article:
    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090810/tuk-alton-towers-in-skimpy-speedos-ban-6323e80.html

I'm gobsmacked.:( I am an avid swimmer who wears speedo trunks and it now seems that my choice of swimwear is taking a step closer to being outawed. You would think it was Borat style "Mankini" or g-string they were talking about.

Is this PC prudery gone mad? Are we entering a new Victorian era where full body swimsuits are to be the coming order of the day?

Is it not just a little hypocritical/double standards that women swimmers can wear skimpy bikinis but men are now forbidden to even wear swimming trunks?

    What to you think?

I think they didn't quite understand FINA when they announced that they are going to ban the new Speedo swimsuits:pac:

But seriously what a load of crap. How can they seriously think this is a good idea.

edit: hold on I've never been to Alton Towers. Are they banning them just from the waterpark or do they have a swimming pool as well? If they only have a waterpark it isn't as bad. The only time I'd wear speedos is when I'm actually swimming.

"We are also looking into offering complimentary male waxing, which will ensure preserve the dignity of all our guests."

I had to double check the URL to make sure the article wasn't a joke. "Family friendly" my arse. The kids aren't going to take a blind bit of notice, they're doing this for the sake of their own prudery.

Big thread in AH too. After reading a few more links I think it is just a publicity stunt. Mentioned women in thongs on one site too, and many sites never said it was definite, just being thought of.

IIRC all men were in speedos when I went swimming in the 80's

Nope. No full-length bodysuits, but no Speedos either. This could be a conspiracy by manufacturers of knee length jammers :p
