Is There Hope For Gunners This Season?

With the kickoff for a new season around the corner, and record breaking deals every nook and cranny of the world of football, Arsenal (gunners) , loosing their most priced possession Adebayo, is their hope for a truphy in our cabinet this season?

I would be reasonably optomistic tbh, Ade did very little last season and with a fully fit Eduardo there now it will not weaken the teamat all, the bigger concern would be if we were to have any injuries at the back where cover is limited to say the least, just hoping that Wenger has something up he's sleeve before the transfer window closes.

I'd be extremely worried if I was a Gunners fan for the upcoming season, My honest opinion is that they have no chance of a League Winning season & that they'll struggle for a 4th place position to a Champions League place for the 10/11 season.

As a cup side (bar CL) they'll be worth a few bob on them though.

I wouldn't say the Adebayor is their most priced possesion. A fit Eduardo and Van Persie are much better players. Adebayor was a lazy player and if he wanted to go for the money its better of that Arsenal don't have him.

Being honest I think this is the most open season.

Utd have no Ronaldo or Tevez. Valencia is good but not quite a 20 gaol winger. Owen is a grea assist when fit and on form, but in recent years I think he is more focused on getting into England than playing club football.

Chelsea have a terrible old midfield, and Carlo likes to play a diamond 4-4-2. This will be hard for Chelsea players who are used to the 4-5-1 mould. Carlo likes a flat back 4 that defend first and attack second, Cole, Bosingwa and Zhirkov do not fit this mould.

Liverpool have defensive trouble as half their back line are carring knocks. Their team is terribly thin and one injury could really cost them. They will miss Alonso and bringing in Alberto was a big gamble.

So yes Arsenal are like all the other teams with their problems. As far as a title shot goes I think that is asking too much but their is no real reason why they can't finish in the top 3 or 4 once injuries don't occur.

I don't think they will struggle as much as people expect. City have gone out and bought basically a whole new team, that is going to take a lot of time to gel to get a system that works etc. Villa, Spurs, Fulham and Everton all have not really made huge signings. Villa signed Downing and Spurs Crouch but neither team looks a vastly improved on last year.

Arsenal had most problems at the start of last season. Apart from the two semi-finals we finished the season well.

Comparing the team at the start of last season with the start of this season, we have lost Adebayor and Toure but gained Vermaelen, Arshavin, Eduardo, Rosicky and Traore (assume Senderos is sold after Saturday's game), two of those back from injury, one back from loan. Players like Ramsey, Gibbs, Vela are one year older. The squad is better now than at the start of last season.

I am reasonably optimistic. Will be more than reasonably optimistic if we make a solid start and sign more players by the end of August.

I don't think Rosicky will really make an impact until a month or two into the season after that slight setback in think Arsene is going to be extra cautious with him now. But as far are your other points I agree that Arshavin did a lot for you (Liverpool match for example) and I think the younger lads like Ramsey, Wilshere, Vela may see some Premier League football and not only Carling Cup

From a admittedly biased point of view I'd rather watch Varmealen and Chamakh, as well as Wilshire coming through, over Man City's galaticos.

BTW this should be in the Soccer forum.

The funny thing with Man City is they are trying not to be considered Galacticos because they didn't go out and spend 40 and 50 million on one player, they just bought a lot of rejects ha ha.

They bought Adebayor who Arsenal fans actually started up a website to get him out of the club. They bought Tevez who United thought was not good enough to spend 25m on. They bought Barry who is terribly overrated because he is English.

I think Theo Walcott said it best...Arsenal has to learn to win dirty. Arsenal have to learn to fight and battle to get them dirty one nil wins that Pool and Utd can scrap out.
