Female or male driving instructor?

I'm a girl, about to start my driving lessons and a friend of mine suggested that I should find a female instructor because she had lessons with both woman and a man and preferred the former. She said that she thinks it's because women learn in a different way than men?

I'm a bit sceptical about it, but who knows? Anyone have similar experiences?

Yes, I'm not going to rule out male instructors just because of that, I was just wondering whether there were other people who agreed with her statement :)

I'm a girl and I took lessons from both a male and female instructor - changed instructors cus I moved to a different area. I found the female instructor alot better and passed with her but I don't think it had anything to do with either of us being female but rather she was the better instructor of the two. She was rec'd by several people at work and some friends and I think that's the thing to look for, someone who gets most of their business through word of mouth is prob doing something right but don't be afraid to change instructor if your not happy, just cus they worked for someone else doesn't mean they will suit you.

Good to hear it. The other thing is that some areas seem to be easier/harder to pass in than others. It would be interesting to see the statistics for each area.

Statistics can be interesting to read but they are only numbers in the end and don't give the full picture. The statistics don't say how many people sat the test in each center and some of the city centers would test more people then smaller country ones. And people 'fail' for things not related to driving, the car might not be road worthy or the persons permit might be out of date, that goes down as a fail on the record but they don't actually sit the test. Best not to worry or focus on the test center and statistic and just focus on your own driving, to sound cheesey your a person not a statistic :p

if you are the type of girl who is easily freaked out then go for a female instructor. i remember some girl ages ago made a thread here about how some male instructor said she should have a boyfriend or something and that didn't go down well with her at all. so if the guy saying something like that to you would bother you then find a female instructor

If any instructor ever says anything like that they should be reported to the RSA and have they're ADI permit cancelled. I would imagine however that it's very rare that an instructor would be so stupid as to make such a comment.
In general I don't think most people mind whether they have a male or female instructor once they feel comfortable and are happy with the tuition they're receiving.
