Going to get Sky+ HD

    Hey guys

Im an absolute out-and-out noob when it comes to satellite technology so I was hoping someone could help me out here. First off, my TV is HD-Ready and has a HDMI port at the back (I also have a HDMI cable that isnt in use) so Im pretty sure I can get Sky+ HD, right?

Secondly, Ive never used Sky before so heres what Im wondering. Im going to get the Variety pack, the Sports pack and ESPN. Im told this comes to a one off fee of £49 (yes, pounds, Im in Belfast) for the box as set-up is free with the HD box, and a monthly fee of £54.50. I have no problem with that. Theres no hidden fees or anything Im missing out on here? Whats this No Phone Line fee I hear of, and is it monthly or a one-off? Also, I assume the minimum contract is 12 months. Is there anyway of cancelling it a month or two early? This isnt overly important, I dont mind paying the 12 months but if there was a way of getting round it, Id be open to exploring it!

Edit: Also, there is no existing Sky dish for my apartment, so I assume they would have to install one? Is there anything else I need to do before the guys come to install Sky for me apart from clear it with the landlord?

    Any help/info appreciated, thanks guys!

Be careful with that one, many apartment buildings don't allow dishes.

If there is no phone line in the apartment they charge you extra for set up. I believe that you must have a phone line to enable HD, but its not required for regular sky+, but I'm open to correction. Thetelephone line will need to reach the Hd box, so you may need to think about the placement of the wires.

Theres no "hidden fees", but you are tied to them for 12 months.

    telephone is not required,

But you will have to pay a once off fee of £25ish .

Make sure the landlord agrees before you order.

Your TV is read for Sky+HD. You'll enjoy the enhanced picture quality if that sort of thing gets you excited. It'll be worth your while to check out Sky Box Office Movies (Ch. 752/753) especially if you have a full 5.1 sound system!
