Flat Bar Racer / Performance Hybrid

I'm looking at purchasing a flat bar racer X2 (partner) , I have looked at the CBoardman Comp and Team. Really liked the bike but I'd prefer not to buy in Halfords... I'd rather deal with a bike shop. I'm not overly particular when it comes to Brand. Can anyone advise an alternative and also where I can purchase? One last question. . . Can I buy on line if it is a govt scheme?

Yes you can buy online on the government scheme. The Boardmans are very good value, you will probably be looking at more money for comparable from a different brand (unless you get a good deal online.)

    Other options would include:

    Giant FCR
    Higher-end Trek FX series
    Specialized Sirrus

Online, a Focus Corrente sounds like a good bet. Downside would be no mounts for rack or mudguards.

google bike to work scheme for their web site and a list of all affiliated bike stores nationwide is given including two web sites one of which is chain reaction cycles.com

You can buy from anywhere as long as your employer is willing. The affliated stores thing is either the civil service approved list (which they are limited to) or the likes of biketowork.ie who are a third party providing a "single supplier" service to employers. There is no inherent need in the scheme for a bike shop to be "affiliated" to anything, you can buy a bike from Canyon in Germany if you like.
    Q. Can a bicycle be bought anywhere, e.g. online from abroad, or will it have to be bought in Ireland or from a pre-approved selection of shops?

    A. There are no limits as to where the bicycle should be purchased by the employer.

I've been looking at those too. Not sure just to get a road bike instead though. Incidentally I had dismissed the Giant CRS range but the CRS Zero looks quite decent.

I have to agree, was looking at the Ridgeback Flight range... Priced similar to the cboardman range....

I've decided to go for a road bike.... Seems the best over all, Ok I'm going to spend 900 each but it seems a better buy. I feel I would grow out of the Flat bar very quickly...

I'll post specs of what i'm thinking when I get the brochure...

If you think you are going to want to do longer distances a road bike is a very good idea, you will end up buying one eventually anyway.
