    The way he broke the whip on abortion was unusually principled, but I'm not sure what else he did.

    Was meant to be a very nice man though, and a hard-worker.

    Decent guy. Very traditional catholic. I believe he worked as a sacristan, and it guided his politics to a great degree. No harm in that. At least you know where you stood with him.

    Many may not have agreed with his stance on abortion, but he was also vocal in support of the right of asylum seekers and immigrants at a time when many opportunists were jumping on a xenophobic bandwagon.

    His argument was totally in line with his Christian principles.

    An honest and principled guy.
