Problems with memory stick

Please can anyone give me some advice.
I bought a 16gb memory stick on EBay. The only relevant numbers or make that I can find is ST9120822AS ATA Device.
I am running Vista. The purpose of this memory stick is that I want to put all my photos on to it, to release some space on my laptop.
So far I have been spectacularly unsuccessful!!!
I have formated the stick - actually twice!
A lot of the photos appear to save, but wont open, and then wont delete.
I am also frequently told that it is "Error 0x80070570". As an experiment I saved a file of photos, that had failed, on to a small memory stick that I have and it worked grand.
I must admit, this 16gb stick came from China and was very cheap. Is that what is wrong? Pay peanuts, get monkeys?
Any suggestions would be gratefully received, before I throw the bloody thing in the bin!

Unfortunatly, fake cards are very common on ebay. Not that your card is a fake, it may just be faulty. I never ended up buying a card off ebay, but here is the ebay site with information on fake cards.

It was more than likely a fake if it came from China. You should buy from elara, pixmania, komplett etc rather than ebay.

    Thanks for that.
I dont think I was clear that it is a USB pen drive memory stick
It doesn't pretend to be any particular make

So. From all this advice do I take it that you all think I should cut my losses and buy a new one?

ebays fine you just need to go with the power sellers and anyone with a return policy - Policies are oh so important.

For storage I never found anything nicer than WD Passport drives though.

If you bought with paypal you have buyer protection. check the website.

OP, how are you formatting the USB stick? FAT, FAT32? Might be worth trying all possibilities before throwing it away. Also, are you removing the stick using after disabling it from the USB icon in the tray (safe removal)?

Also, if you're using it on Vista, try it on an XP PC if you can, or vice-versa.

Also, if your pictures are important, don't just rely on a USB stick to preserve them. Use CD-Rs/DVD-Rs as well.
