    Guys,

Have you ever received a fine from a European country for a traffic violation? Did you appeal?

I've received a notice of a traffic violation - specifically - 'The Vehicle crossed a limited traffic area outside of authorised hours.'

This occured 3rd June 2008 and the date of the notice is 24 August 2009. This occured in Italy on holidays in a rental car.

Could only have been me driving and I accept that I'm responsible. It just seems very odd that it takes 14 months to send notice, that and I'm completely unaware that I made the infraction in the first place!

oh, and I no longer live at the address the notice was sent to.

    Cheers

14 Months . Is there not some law there that sets a a fair limit on how long after the event happened that you can defend yourself properly. Like I cant remember what I was driving last week nevermind where and when! 14 months just seems crazy to me. Anyway its in Italy, does it really matter?

It matters as they want 108.55 Euros from me within 60 days or 178.55 after.

Yeah but does it really matter? Like in fairness what are they gonna do if you dont pay it, put out an arrest warrant :D Like it took them 14 months to send the original notice. I cant really see this turning into an international incident :p.

Was it sent via normal (unregistered post)?

In 14 months your old address could have had several different sets of people living there with no way to get hold of you.

They can't actually prove you got the notice can they?

Send them back a nice letter in Irish asking them for details of the alleged offence and wait.....

Sounds like you were caught on a traffic camera entering one of the residents-only restricted area in central Arezzo, something becoming more and more common in Italian cities.
Meh. If you ever plan on going back, pay it.

Very common tourist trap in Piza and Verona. Got caught myself two years ago and only received notice 13months after the event. We go to Italy quite a bit so decided to pay up.
The charge was sent registered post.
The authorities got my address from car rental company who also sometimes add on an extra change on your credit card for the hassle.

Not worth the hassle to avoid paying it, but I'll query the long delay.

@the_syco spot on, it was Arezzo and by 'approved video control system'.

What would happen if you sent it back in with "not at this address" written on it?

I agree completely. Irish is our official language, after all, so they would have to deal with it! Seriously whats the worst that can happen!:D

Pay it in 14 months time. They cant say anything about it. They took that long, why not you? ;)
