    Hi,

We bought our house some years ago, it already had the attic converted with a window i the gable end of the attic, which all had planning permission, now we want to put two velux windows in the rear of the attic roof (which doesn't look out over anyone elses property) do we need to get planning to put in these velux windows???

    thanks.

If not to the front of the house and given that you are not changing the roof profile I don't believe so for most LA's.

this is a bit of a grey area but an bord pleanala have made determinations where rooflights do not require permission....

Yeah as stated by sydthebeat ABP have ruled on several occasions that they are exempt and in one case I even seen them stating that they were exempt when located on the side of a roof of a rear extension which could have been argued was overlooking. But they have the final say on these matters.

Generally 3 velux located to the rear of the roof are considered exempt.

You may want to amend that comment.

I have seen planning applications and retention applications for them. If you put them on the front roof then you will require planning.
