Hi all, have just moved to D3 and am looking to join a local martial arts club. I am not interested in pure wrestling of any type and also no MMA or TKD please (that will probably make me instantly unpopular here!). anyone know any good eastern martial arts clubs in the city or fairview/marino area?
I hold a grade in Shotokan and would like to find a local club but I would also like to explore other martial arts, also not interested in clubs full of kids, I'm looking for an adult clas.
    Thanks guys

Have a look in the reception area of St. Josephs CBS opposite Fairview Park.

I attended a Judo competition there recently and see there's an active Shotokan club advertising there.

The guy running the club in Joeys is Gearoid give him a call 0878197785, his website is http://www.karateireland.com/

Austin Bradshaw runs the club in the Handball Club in Croker 086 889 1439, don't think he has a website.

I would have posted but the OP did say no MMA. We do have a Kyokushin Karate class on a Friday from 7 - 8.30, but if the OP was interested in Kyokushin it might be better to go to the dojos in Killester, though that's Dublin 5 is it not?

Jaysus lads thats great info I didnt realize that Kyokoshinkai even existed in Ireland. Is it really kyokoshinkai?? or a maky up version based on youtube vids?...just kidding lol i'll check it out!

I wonder if the Shotokan club will let me enter with my current grade from the KUGB/JKA, they probably wont, SKIF shotokan is very different to JKA shotokan and they tend not to like each other...

The Kyokushin in Ireland is very much authentic. The dojo in Killester is part of Kyokushin Ireland who are under Steve Arneil, 9th Dan, who is based in the UK. The Friday class in Kokoro is run usually by Bartek Katka, who recently graded for his 1st Dan.

    Hi Jimkel

I am actually not a member of Shika Do though I have trained with them on occasion and have also attended seminars where there has been Shika Do taught .

From my understanding it is a style of Karate . It has traditional forms , Katas etc it also incorporates kickboxing type sparring and some grappling .

To be fair I am no expert so my explanation is probably not comprehensive enough but I will say that they are a very nice bunch of guys who train hard and are welcoming to new students .I enjoyed any time I spent training with them and learned quite a lot and their instructor Mr Bradshaw is a fantastic Martial Artist - both in technique and teaching ability .

Worth a view in my humble opinion

    Regards,

    Darren
