Do you know by just looking at someone, 1 glance you would
    a) Wouldn't trust em
    b) Find them approachable
    c) Think they are a drug user
    d) Stupid
    e) Love
    f) intelligent
    g) Violent

..... and any you would like to add

What do you think we base these thoughts on because in my opinion we all have them and it takes a glance. Body language of the person, looks? Or our own perception in our head?

Could be 1 for the psychology forum but was wondering what the afterhours crews views would be.

That's the thing! You can't really put it into words, it's just previous experience of what a druggie or whatever acts like, and you judge them accordingly. It's mostly subconscious programming, but amazingly intricate all the same.

Facial expression and the way they walk can say a lot about some people. For example one of my friends was really badly bullied in school and has a slightly nervous walk to this day, shoulders tight and a slight rock forwards and backwards.

A different friend was a D4 head and he is constantly throwing shapes when he walks, swinging his shoulders around and sauntering about.

Its mad though in a matter of a second you look at some1 and wheither you like it or not you have a opinion of them even if as above poster says sub-conciously or not. Its how you choose to judge your own perception is the weird part.. Makes you question what peoples perception of you would be 2!

So really the question is "are you prejudiced?"

Most people are yet it is still treated like a dirty word, even though there is sensible logic to many prejudiced views.

I wouldn't ever make assumptions. I've meet some dodgey looking ****ers that have turned out to be sound and I've meet some cops who've been complete **** (and I met them socially and grown up with them, they confiscate drugs so they'll have something to bring to parties to show their sound).

I know hard cases that will knock the **** out of any one that looks side ways at them when their drunk but would stand by you through thick and thin if their a friend.

Never, ever judge a book by it's cover, people will actually try to be what you expect of them. I don't ever get in trouble because of that mentality. If someone calls me a cunt I'll actually agree with them. Some random strangers opinon doesn't mean that much to me so I'll never get agro about it.

hmmm people say you must not judge people before you talk to them..
well a lot of the time i ignore that and each time i do, by just looking at them, i can tell what kind of person they are..e.g. scumbag would wear dirty base ball cap, airmax runners, socks tucked into branded tracksuit bottoms, stripy jumper, foul look on his face and a walk like they have got tennis balls up there arm pits.

people say Im wrong for judging them straight away even tho Im always right.
the way i think about it is, the only way they dress like that is to persue the image of a scumbag (scanger)..

No harm in making use of all your senses and experiences in order to draw an opinion, most of the time there are really subtle clues that we pick up on and we use to form an opinion/view unknown to ourselves.

AAaaah but i know plenty of mates that would be described as this and they are some of the soundest heads you would meet. (Then my description of sound can differ from anothers) I understand and agree with the "You shouldn't judge a book by its cover" but im playing around with the theory that even anyone who says they do this, don't. Wheither they know it or not or want to admit it???? Can anyone honestly say they have never had a biased opinion on someones character based on there first glance at some1?? :D

    All people are ****.

It's just some are more **** than others. And most of those tend to wear shellsuits and baseball caps and be from Tallaght.

when we are babies and young children we are bad communicators but great observers. It is during these early years that we hone these skills of perception.

look at body language, when a baby is full and doesnt want any more food it moves its head from side to side to avoid the spoon. this becomes a way of saying no. there are many ways to read a person from how they are sitting, where their hands are placed, their gestures etc. some people are better at recognising them. in poker they are called 'tells' I believe.

Have you ever had someone say a name of a person and then have an impression of what they're like before you meet them?!

e.g. whenever someone mentions the name Jennifer for some reason I think that the person is probably going to be pretty!!

It's so silly, of course sometimes the person is like the associations to do with the name and then sometimes they aren't!

The human animal is amassing in every way shape and form. Society just is unable to take advantage of it.

Every marketing course to customer care course all whip out the statement "first impressions are made up of 10% oral and 90% appearance".
