New FAE course 2010

What does everyone think about this new FAE course. It looks absolutely horrible in my opinion. This thing about if you fail one of the 2 days of case studies then you have to resit both is crazyness.

In theory you could get 100% on the first day and 49% on the second day and have to resit both, while somebody who got 50% in each wouldnt have to resit any. That cant be fair can it?

I'm now starting to worry about the possibility of having to repeat and therefore postpone travel plans by 6 months.

I guess its not an issue until CAP 2's are passed anyway, just wondering what people think of the new course.

Yep. It sure was worth going to. It did wonders for my attitude tbh, I just don't care anymore! :D

It was also worth going because it allowed people to be put on the spot properly over the CAP2 mess during the questions at the end.

Ooooh excellent - did they give any satisfactory answers or indication of tha pass rates etc? shame it wasnt weeks ago then cos cant make much difference now!!

Not really. Plenty of business speak "going forwards", "system reviews" etc but nothing I would call satisfactory. There was so much info on the new FAE it would take a lot longer than one evening session to take it all in and understand it in fairness.

We had our meeting in Limerick and they said that with it being competency based that it will be an overall result. Not a % you will get. If you have one good day and show you are competent in everything and then have an off day, but show that you can still recognise an issue you will pass. Thats the way it was put to us. I still feel unsure about it all. But im sure as more info comes out it will enlighten us.

Gotta get passed friday and repeats first anyhow!

Sounds like a lot of work and alot of change from previous years.

Whats the story with electives for everyone? Are any of you allowed to pick a different elective to the area of business you are working in? or am I the only poor sod who is being forced to do a subject that I dont want to do, have no interest in, and just barely passed at CAP 2 level by the skin of my teeth :(

I think most people will be picking the tax elective cause it will be the easiest to pass!!! I suppoe if your in audit , the mangers are gonno push you towards doing the audit module!!

what a joke this new fae, ususally if u pass fae u get all part one tax exemptions now its only those who do the tax moudle that get the tax exemption!!!!

Well that makes sense coz you'll know malong that the standard of the fae compared to prof 3 in tax is very big. I have seen the cap2 from my OH and still not near the level expected for fae(especially when it comes to the interaction of taxes) so it makes sense that you would need to do the tax module if you wanted to get the exemption from part 1

Oh and by the way we are very lucky we get that exemption coz i can promise you that the part 1 is a hell of a lot harder than our fae talking to people who have had to sit it!!

Plz god i get the tax paper in the fae or my plans to sit part 2 in may are out the window!

I cant understand exactly what your trying to say,

Do you think the new FAE syllabus will be harder than the cap 2's

I heard part 1 of tax was realtively straight forward!!

no im just saying that it makes sense that you have to do the tax elective in the new fae to get the exemption bcoz having seen the cap2, you def would not have covered enough to get the exemption from part 1 just like we wouldnt have covered enough when we did prof 3 last year to get the exemption

Oh, what do u think fae will be like next year!!!!!!!

i assume the tax will be harder than our fae tax paper given that it is an elective rather than a half paper in our case.

So glad i didnt have to do the new syllabus, we really dodged a bullet there overall. I'd be long gone if there was no compensation!!!!

they say that for the first year there will just be three electives, does anyone have any idea what other kind of electives are most likely to be created in the years to come?

    some finance related subject perhaps?

Congrats to everyone that has the luxury of stressing over the elective regardless of whether you get to decide or not!
Im lucky enough to have the choice but im finding it a dificult decision - i work in audit but prefer tax as a subject to study and find it alot more interesting! as it stands i dont intend on staying in practice for very long post contract so i figure i wont need an auditing cert.
Performance management isnt an option for me as MABF/SFMA was the hardest thing ive ever done!!
