pigeons will fly "straight" to the feeding grounds from there roost.
get out early and follow them .use a compass to get the direction right before you set off.

how far will they travel does any1 know? i presume they fly at around 40 to 50 miles an hour. they wouldnt be long covering ground at that rate. i was looking for shooting today and from what i seen they preferred standing barley than stubble. why is this?

pigeon prefer standing crop for a few reasons,
1,they get some cover when feeding. 2, the ear or wheat or barley is easy pickings. pigeons love rape also ,its down about 10 days before its harvested and huge numbers will build up on it if left alone.also there is great cover in the long stalks and between the swards.

did you ever see them landing on the wheat with there wings out to knock more of it

not very far about hear as there is plenty of crops. i would say its not as far as you might thing.
pigeons are a clever resourceful bird that will feed on a road side on spilt grain or crops .
if they cant make a living handy they will move on.

If there is no crops in your neighbourhood you cant shoot them this time of year. When they are in season you can shoot them in the evening returning to roost in the woods, do a recci to find the flightline.
