New iphone not automatically connecting to 3g?

    Hi,

    Just got a new officially unlocked iphone 3gs. Im using it with 3 and have all the settings etc entered...

    Problem is, when im not in an area with 3g coverage, the '3g' symbol dissapears and it uses gsm only...but then when i go back into an area with 3g coverage, the phone wont automatically pick it up, I have to toggle airplane mode on and off, then it searched and picks up the 3g signal straight away...and yes, I do have 3g switched on...

    My girlfriend has a 3 handset and it automatically picks up 3g when its available...

    Is my iphone faulty?:(Thanks

    My 3G iPhone is exactly the same on 3 (IRL & UK) since the advent of iPhone OS 3.0, I'm afraid.

    Now, are you ever going to reveal what happened with Belgium? :-)
