Frustrated by achilles tendonitis

For a few months my achilles tendons have been sensitive when running, particularly when starting off, though easing as the session went on. Recently however my right achilles has become a lot more painful and after a prolonged period of denial I figure I should give it some rest, ice it and give it time to recover. This is the second only real set-back I've had in an 15 year running 'career' so I'm very frustrated about not being able to run.

If possible, I'd like to hear how long other sufferers have been out for, is there anything that can speed up repair? When pain subsides would static stretching after a v light warm up help? Is Ourvail any use? Etc. I appreciate the experience will vary greatly among sufferers based on severity - Im just trying to get an idea of how I can return to normal and the best way of doing so. Thanks in advance.

Sorry but that's a real "piece of string" question - everyone is different and you can and should only listen to the advice of teh medical profesionals who have examined you.

As per charter and site wide rules I have to close this on teh grounds of medical advice, sorry.
