me and the GF are arriving in to zadar late at night via ryan air. what i want is some recomendation on where to stay in zadar for a night or maybe two? it's really just a stop over on the way to Hvar and the other islands.

then we need to get down to split in order to get to Hvar. we don't really want to get a smelly bus so were hoping to get a ferry. does any one know one? i found one but they only go 3 times a week and the dates don't suit:confused: or even a ferry directly to Hvar

    TIA

    Hey

Back from Croatia about a month. We flew in and out of Zadar but spent most of our time on Brac.
    I booked Denis Apartment http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels/croatia/zadar/43639/
Its in Bibinje, which is about 13km outside Zadar. They will organise a taxi from airport if you want, brings you straight to house. Its basically rooms with en-suites in their house. Very reasonable and clean. Its perfect. Bibinje has some lovely resturants along the sea front!
There is a bus that goes into Zadar every hour up until 11pm.
You should try see the Plitvice Lakes - you'll need to get a bus tho!

I really do recommend this place! Its ideal for that night stop over, we ended up staying 3 days!

EDIT - Also, maybe this will be worth a look - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=61200747

    Good luck.

Any more info, just let ask!

    thats great, thanks very much.

what about getting from zadar out to Bibinje late at night? would taxi's be reasonable?

how did you get down to brac? bus/train/boat? and how was it?how many hours etc?

whats brac like and how does it compare to hvar and korcula if you were there? any recomendations where to go?

    thanks

I'm not to sure about this, we just went out in Bibinje, just quiet pubs and resturants. I think it would be pricey enough.

We took a bus from main bus station in Zadar, it took about 3 hours to Split, boring and drivers drive fast! Motion sickness tablets would be an idea!

Brac is gorgeous. We spent time in Milna, little village with a great Marina. Mainly locals live there, not so touristy, have no idea about the other islands unfortunately, just stayed in Milna, but I intend on going back to visit the islands!
Hear Hvar is a must see, plenty of ferries go from Split to all the islands!

If you intend on getting a bus, you will be charged 7 kuna (about a euro, I think) for luggage to store under the bus.

Buses leave Zadar about every hour, I remember ours was at 11.35am.
You'll stop in a lot of small towns along the way, which make the journey longer. We couldn't find a more direct bus.

Food is reasonable over there, as are the local beers. Lots of fresh fish amd shell fish as well as good steaks and vegetables.
If you ask for a tomatoe salad, you will get just that, a bowl of tomatoes, same goes for cucumber, unless otherwise stated obviously.

Enjoy it, its beautiful, be sure to bring a camera

anyone else have suggestions for accomadation in the old town in zadar. it seems to be non existant / booked out. has anyone got a boat from zadar to one of the islands like hvar/korcula/brac etc?

Just back from Croatia as well. Accomdation is hard to come by in centre of zadar. hotels quite pricey as well. As the previous poster said there are plenty of apartments in bibinje and i stayed out in petrcane about 25 mins by bus. taxi is 180 kuna about 15 euro. try tripadvisor for any apartments in centre of zadar.
With regards to ferries from Zadar to brac or Hvar, don't think they go, would also take a very long time. Bus took us less than 2 hours to split, make sure you get your ticket and queue early otherwise you'll run the risk of standing. Buses can be crowded. If you arrive in Split early im sure you could catch a Catmaran to Bol on Brac island

    cheers Mccoy

your saying if i get the bus from zadar to split i might struggle to get a boat out of split that day to an island?:(

    keep suggestions coming folks:D

No not saying that at all. It should actually be quite easy to get from split to hvar, brac or wherever. Just prob be best to leave from zadar to split early in the day. I'm not sure of the jadrolinija ferries timetables(Check out http://www.jadrolinija.hr for ferry times) from split but we walked around the port and asked the private catmarans and other boats if they were going to our destination. You can also ask at ticket office at port when you get there. You should have no trouble really
