    Not too hilly,
pull alright up to the top of the gap of dunloe.
Road is narrow with plenty horse dung and pot holes especially from the top of gap of dunloe down into the Black valley

    Hey Rob,

there are 2 courses. (see http://www.ride4life.ie/?page_id=10 for maps).

Route 1 is 44 Km from Killarney to Killorglin, Milltown and back to Killarney. This is almost completely flat. There is one brief steep descent into Milltown and then a short climb out of Milltown. It should be fine for anyone of average fitness.

Route 2 is more challenging at 85km. The Gap of Dunloe is narrow and twisty and a fair climb then a steep descent. Then there is a fairly tough climb up Moll's Gap. That's the worst of it then. I haven't driven up there for a while so I'm not sure what the surface is like right now. But, a regular cyclist will manage it.

There is a time limit but it's generous. AFAIk you need to finish by 2pm as the Tour of Ireland are expected to cross the finish line around 3pm.

Interest has been really good event though we had to start the publicity quite late as we had to wait for the TOI announcement, so hopefully we'll get a pretty decent turnout. We've had registrations from England and South Africa already, would you believe! We plan it to be the first year of an annual ride, and possibly hold it in more than one location in future years.

Let me know if I can help any more.

    Paul

    Echo what has been said.

CLimb to Dunloe is a nice climb, and only get tough in the last 1km or so. Biggest factor would be whether there is a strong wind lowing through the gap at you. Otherwise a lovely clim in a beautiful area. THere are a lot of Hill Walkers and tourists on this road every day, so watch out for them, as they will be also walking to the Gap (so their back will be facing you). Once over the Gap you have several hairpins to descend into the Black Valley. Just be careful of tourist cars (road is only wide enough for one car).

CLimb out of the Black Valley up toward Molls Gap is a nice steady tempo clim - a pretty good workout, without being a complete killer. You will gain 140m over 2.5km, so avg gradient of 5.6%.

It is a great route, but a little short (would have preferred say 100-120km).

I am debating as to whether I will do this or head to the climb outside Millstreet to watch the peleton go over.
Anyway, it is a great route
