Help finding film (black and white English horror)

I saw a film on Bravo when I was about 12 years old. It involved genetically modified(?) gorillas/apes. There was a mad scientist type chap who had them in a house on an island. It was a British movie and it looked like the Isle of Mann or somewhere like that. There were high wire fences around the complex with dogs guarding it. When the apes escape they climb one of the fences and beat the **** out of all the dogs and eat them (I think). There's one scene where the guy is trying to make a getaway in the car and a monkey chases the car, hops on and he wrestles with it a bit and the car goes off a cliff. That's all I can remember really because it scared the hell out of me and I couldn't watch much more of it.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the specific request.
But if you want to see a B&W English Horror. Then 'The haunting'from I think the 1950's, I believe is an excellent movie. Professional ghost-hunter invites different people to a large subject House including a sensitive, naive woman who just had a loss in her family. Simply sound-effects and visuals. There's an iron winding staircase too.
Remake in 1997/8 with Pierce Brosnan(?) and the original may have American money but I though it was very good. Like the most scariest film I ever seen.

I saw that too. A really atmospheric film. I thought the bit
where the doors and walls were banging was dead scary

The Island of Doctor Moreau (1977) or (1996) has animal mutants and a mad professor on an island, in colour though but maybe its the 1930s BW version you saw.
