Buying car in newry

I'm thinking of buying a car up north, probably newry. I've no idea what
this would entail regards taxes etc. Can anyone tell me, apart from the
conversion of sterling to euros rate, what other costs I might incur and
would it be worth my while in the long run? Would there be a lot of
form filling involved to get it registered here in the South. Many thanks.

    Have a look at www.usedcarsni.com
I recently bought a Mondeo diesel on this site.
    Check your VRT price first
I saved €1500-€2000 0n the whole deal and got a really good low milage car.Have an idea of what you would like to get before you start looking.
If you don't get a good vibe from the dealer/seller just give it a miss and go to the next one.

Im always arguing here that there is no value left up North. Just as a matter of interest is there any chance you can tell us how much you paid for the car and on what basis you think you saved €1500. The OP in question here doesnt seem to have the first clue about where to get value and seems to be just following the sheep because " its cheaper up North " . It aint .....and hasnt been for some time now. OP what are you looking for and why are you going up North. Cars have never been cheper down here.

VRT €417, Exchange rate +€200 = €2017 + Time + No warranty ( unless of course you want to go to NI everytime you hear a strange noise ) , nevermind the fact that you could easily haggle 200- 300 quid of the price of the Southern car. Stop being sheep

But by who? Your example was more expensive. Im not on here to sell cars, I come on here to give my motortrade opinion / advice. Now I dont mind debating opposing opinions but there's not much point in debating this. Your example was more expensive hence proving my point ;).

Happy to tell you Sabb Ed
Please take the following into account. The car i bought is a one owner, full Ford s/h '03 Mondeo diesel with 49,000 miles on the clock.

    I paid £3150 (€3761.19) VRT €1250
Total cost VRT paid €5011.19 (and one day spent in the North looking at cars.
I could not find similar down south or on Carzone anywhere near this price.I have seen rough cars in this price bracket and also in Merlin car auctions.
    Hope this helps

In fairness the Clio was not the best example and perhaps the value buying up north has decreased recently. I brought a car down from Newry last May for my wife. Had it bought and cleared for €8500, left the house at 11am was home with new car at 6.45pm. Similar cars at the time were going for 12k upwards at the time on Carzone (Albeit Carzone is not a good yard stick for valuing a car). We def saved a few thousand.

I do believe that the importing of cars has to a certain degree the sale of cars ruined down here. Its a great time to buy but really only if you've got noubt to sell.
